Optical domes serve as hemispheric windows that establish a protective barrier while enabling a clear field of view between two environments. Typically consisting of two parallel surfaces, these domes play a crucial role in various applications. Shanghai Optics specializes in manufacturing optical domes using a diverse range of substrates suitable for transmitting visible, infrared (IR), or ultraviolet (UV) light. Our offerings include domes with diameters ranging from 5 mm to over 200 mm, and we also accommodate custom sizes upon request.
For situations where only visible light transmission is required, choosing BK7 or fused silica as the optical dome material is recommended. BK7 offers excellent chemical durability and high transmission capabilities within the wavelength range of 300 nm to 2 µm, making it suitable for camera sensors and meteorology applications.
When it comes to UV-range light transmission, our UV-grade fused silica domes are available. These domes are designed to withstand high pressure and are particularly ideal for underwater applications. With over 85 percent transmission for wavelengths up to 185 nm, this optical glass ensures efficient UV light transmission.
Upon request, we can also manufacture acrylic domes. These domes exhibit reduced light scattering compared to BK7 or fused silica options while maintaining a high level of durability.
Avantier specializes in the production of custom optical domes using a wide range of substrates suitable for transmitting visible, IR, or UV light.
